Keith Sweat’s full name is Keith Douglas Sweat. He was born on July 22nd, 1961, in New York City, US. His parents’ names are Juanita Thompson and Charles Sweat. His mother was a hairdresser by profession and his father worked in a factory. Unfortunately, his father died in 1973, and his single mother raised him and his four siblings by herself. Keith started working at the Macy’s department store as a night stock boy to support his family financially. While working at the store, he attended City College.
In 1975, around the same time as college, he began playing with a Harlem band named Jamilah, and he spent his weekends like that. His school education was not clear but he did graduate from City College in NYC, with a degree in communications, in the 1980s.

As mentioned earlier, he joined the band Jamilah, where he sang as the lead singer while performing in several places, including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. In 1984, he left the band to pursue his solo career in music. With an independent label, he started recording his songs. He then got an opportunity later in the year of 1987, to sign a contract with Vintertainment Records. Keith then released his debut album, under the label, in 1987, titled Make it Last Forever.
The triple platinum album was a massive hit and topped many charts, including Billboards’. It also had a hit single titled ‘I want her’. Following that success, he released his second album titled I’ll Give All My Love To You. The album was 2x platinum and even sold more than 2 million copies. The following year, he dropped his third album titled Keep It Comin’, which also was a massive hit. In 1994, he released a fourth, titled Get Up On It. In 1992, he even helped a band release their debut album named Lose Control. He then found another band and produced their debut album called Surrender.
