David Thompson was originally named David O’Neill Thompson and was born on 13th July, 1954. He is a former American professional basketball player. He played with the Denver Nuggets of both associations including NBA and ABA, and with NBA’s Seattle Supersonics as well. In 1974, He was previously leading the Wolfpack to its NCAA Championship and was a star at North Carolina State College. In 1996, he was enlisted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He was also the one player with six other players who scored 70 or more than 70 points in the game NBA.
Thompson earned the nickname of the ‘Skywalker’ due to his exceptional ability to leap and he was known for his skill. In the 1970s, His popular ability also facilitated him in becoming one of remains game’s premier dunkers.

Education and Early Career
Thompson completed his schooling at Crest High School and played for his school on the Varsity Basketball team for at least four years of his schooling. In 1971, he as well started in the Association of North Carolina East-West All-Star Basketball game. David Thompson is also the first cousin of the popular Alvin Gentry, they both grew up in Shelby, North Carolina.
In 1973, he led the team at North Carolina State University to remain undefeated for the season with 27-0. After some complications, He then also lead the Wolfpack for a season of 30-1 and the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship in the year 1974.
NC State’s game against Maryland’s University racket at 4th and due to their victories they were considered as one of the best colleges for a Basketball game. Thompson and his team lead the Wolfpack to number 1 and by beating the opposition they won the National Championship that year.
David Thompson was considered one of the best talents among other talented players, including Michael Jorden, Len Bias, Ralph Sampson, etc. In 1975, on a break way, he received a long pass from his team player that resulted in the first and the only dunk of his overall college career due to a technical foul. His number 44 remained the only retired number by the school in Men’s basketball.
